Thanksgiving on the Farm: 2016

Believe it or not (like me!) Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Quite literally – it’s next week y’all! 
A few years back, I created a word document to help me grocery shop & prepare for this special occasion meal & while I tweak it here & there; for the most part it remains consistent. This alone has taken a huge load of stress off me during this often hectic time of year. This year, I figured I’d share my menu & grocery list in hopes it helps take a bit of stress off you over the next week as well. 
I’ve been using this menu (more or less) over the last 5 years – so it promises to deliver without being overly complicated & can feed anywhere from just you & your farmer to a party of six – depending on how many leftovers you’d like to fill the fridge with 😉 
Appetizers
  • Charcuterie Board
  • Buffalo Chicken Dip 
  • Goat Cheese Stuffed Figs Wrapped in Prosciutto, Drizzled with Local Honey 
Note – I’m not making all 3 of these this year since it’s just me & the farmer; however if you’re having even just a few people over I’d recommend this trio – I promise you won’t be disappointed!

  • Dave’s “Famous” Mashed Potatoes

*Yes, this is Green Giant frozen Shoepeg Corn, YES IT IS AMAZING & I’m proud to have it on my menu every year!!! 
**From-Scratch or From-A-Can, I’ll let you decide.

Itemized Grocery List
Charcuterie Board
  • 1 loaf of Baguette 
  • 3-4 of your favorite artisan deli cheeses; I like Brie, Red Dragon, Cranberry Glazed Goat Cheese, & Comte 
  • 2-3 of your favorite artisan deli meats; I like Prosciutto, Salame, Sopressata, & Capocollo 
Buffalo Chicken Dip 
  • 2 Cups of Seasoned & Shredded Chicken Breasts 
  • 8oz Pack of Softened Cream Cheese 
  • 1/2 Cup of Blue Cheese Dressing  
  • 1/2 Cup of Franks Red Hot 
  • 1/2 Cup of Blue Cheese Crumbles
Goat Cheese Stuffed Figs Wrapped in Prosciutto, Drizzled with Local Honey
  • 1 pack of Fresh Figs 
  • 1 pack of Goat Cheese 
  • 1 pack of Prosciutto
  • Local Honey  
Oven-Roasted Turkey with Sage Butter 
  • 10-12 pound Turkey 
  • 1 stick of Butter
  • Fresh Rosemary
  • Fresh Sage
  • 1-2 Lemons
  • Salt & Pepper
Mom’s Stuffing 
  • 1 Loaf of White Bread
  • 1 box of Mushrooms
  • 1 pack of Celery
  • 1 Onion
  • Splash of Milk
  • Poultry Seasoning 
  • Salt & Pepper 
Dave’s “Famous” Mashed Potatoes 
  • 4-6 Red Potatoes 
  • 1/2 stick Butter
  • Splash of Heavy Cream
  • 1/2 cup Sour Cream 
  • Salt & Pepper
Green Bean Casserole 
  • 1 pound Green Beans
  • 1 box of Mushrooms
  • 1-2 cloves of Garlic
  • 3 cups of Milk
  • 1/3 cup Parmesan Cheese
  • 1/4 cup EVOO
  • 4-5 Shallots
Sweet Potato Casserole 
Shoepeg Corn
Rolls
  • If you’ve chosen the “From-Scratch” method, I promise you I fully intended on posting my MIL’s Sweet Rolls as your option but I seem to have misplaced the recipe – sigh. Ah well, those deserve their own post anyway- stay tuned!
Pumpkin Spice Cookies 
  • 1 Can Organic Pumpkin
  • 1 Box Spice Cake Mix
